A block paved driveway part way through cleaning, the cleaned half clearly lighter than the rest

Driveway cleaning in Swindon

Professional driveway cleaning in Swindon.

A drive is the first thing anyone sees, and it is the surface that takes the most punishment: tyres, oil, moss in the joints and years of Wiltshire weather. We lift all of it, put the sand back where it belongs, and leave the drive looking like it did the year it went down.

How we do it

What you're actually paying for.

Re-sanded, not just blasted

Most of the damage we get called out to fix is from someone pressure washing a block drive and walking away. Stripping the jointing sand out and leaving it is what causes blocks to rock, sink and weed up again within months. We re-sand every block drive with kiln-dried sand as part of the job, brushed and vibrated into the joints.

The right pressure for the surface

Tarmac and imprinted concrete will not take the pressure block paving will. Turn a turbo nozzle on a tarmac drive and you take the bitumen off with the moss. We match the pressure and the nozzle to what is under our feet, and on softer surfaces we let the chemical do the work instead.

Oil and tyre marks treated separately

Oil does not come off with water at any pressure. Drips under where a car sits get a degreaser worked in and dwelt before we wash, which is the only thing that actually shifts them.

Sealing, if you want it

Sealing a block drive after cleaning locks the sand in, slows the weeds and stops spills soaking in. It is optional and we will tell you honestly whether your drive is worth sealing or not, because on some surfaces it makes very little difference.

On the day

Step by step.

  1. 01

We look at the drive, identify the surface and point out anything that needs saying: sunken blocks, failed edging, drainage that will need sorting.

  2. 02

Weeds and moss treated, oil and tyre marks pre-treated with degreaser.

  3. 03

Rotary surface cleaner across the whole drive for an even finish, with no stripes or wand marks.

  4. 04

Joints re-sanded with kiln-dried sand, brushed and settled in.

  5. 05

Optional seal, and everything washed down so we leave it tidy.

Questions

Driveway cleaning, answered.

Will pressure washing damage my block paving?

Done badly, yes. Too much pressure strips the surface off the blocks and blows out the jointing sand, which is why so many drives look worse a few months after they were cleaned. We use a rotary surface cleaner at a controlled pressure and re-sand the joints afterwards, which is the step most people skip.

How long does a driveway take?

Most domestic drives in Swindon are done in a day. A large or badly overgrown drive, or one that needs sealing, can run into a second day. We will tell you which when we quote, not on the morning.

How often should a drive be cleaned?

Every two to three years for most drives. North-facing or heavily shaded drives green up faster and often want doing every other year.
