Modern silicone and through-coloured renders like K-Rend cannot be pressure washed. The finish is the colour, and once you have blasted it you cannot put it back. Render is cleaned chemically, with a soft wash, or it is not cleaned properly at all.
How we do it
The orange-red blotching people assume is rust or a paint fault is gloeocapsa, an algae that colonises render and thrives on the north and shaded elevations. It needs a biocide treatment. Scrubbing it or pressure washing it will not clear it and will mark the render.
A pressure washer on K-Rend opens up the surface and leaves permanent light patches, and once that has happened the only fix is re-rendering. We apply the treatment at low pressure and let the chemistry do the work.
Soft wash treatment gets everywhere if you are careless. Frames, glass, sills and borders get protected and rinsed, which is most of what makes a render job look tidy at the end.
Render is the service where the difference is most obvious over the following fortnight. The treatment carries on killing the growth after we leave, so the elevation lightens progressively rather than all at once.
On the day
Identify the render type, because silicone, monocouche and painted render all behave differently.
Protect glazing, frames, sills and planting.
Apply biocide soft wash across the elevation at low pressure.
Allow it to dwell and rinse down where the finish allows.
Rinse frames, glass and surrounding surfaces so nothing is left to dry on.

No. The colour runs through the render, so damaging the surface permanently changes how it looks and the only real repair is re-rendering. K-Rend is cleaned with a biocide soft wash at low pressure.

Typically two to four years, depending on the elevation. North-facing walls, and anything under trees or beside a hedge, will come back sooner than a sunny south wall.
